Neurological Physical Therapy

Individualized Care

At Ascend Physical Therapy we are well aware of how a neurological condition can dramatically change a person’s life. Most physical therapy centers are orthopedic in nature and are not equipped and properly trained to provide the appropriate assessment and treatment necessary for the various issues and concerns accompanying many neurological conditions.

These conditions often result in numerous impairments affecting movement, walking, balance, strength, coordination, endurance, and tolerance to general activities of daily living. Therefore, a skilled and thorough evaluation must be conducted to recognize the best treatment methods to help you obtain your desired goals.

Peripheral Neuropathy
Weakness, numbness and pain from nerve damage, usually in the hands and feet. Common cause of PN is diabetes but it can also result from injuries and infections.
Parkinsons
A disorder of the central nervous system that affects movement. Starts with tremor in hand. Other symptoms are slow movement, stiffness, and loss of balance.
Stroke
Damage to the brain from interruption of its blood supply. Symptoms include trouble walking, speaking, understanding, paralysis of face, arm or leg.
Multiple Sclerosis
Resulting nerve damage disrupts communication between the brain and body. Causes different symptoms including vision loss, pain, fatigue, and impaired coordination.
Traumatic Brain Injury
Brain dysfunction caused by outside force, usually a violent blow to the head. Symptoms include confusion, blurry vision, and concentration difficulty

NeuroCom’s Computerized Dynamic Posturography (CDP) is the Gold Standard in the literature for assessment of vestibular and balance disorders. Ascend Physical Therapy is equipped with this assessment tool.

CDP is comprised of the Sensory Organization Test (SOT), Motor Control Test (MCT) and Adaptation Test (ADT) protocols is the standard of care for the assessment and treatment of patients with balance, dizziness and mobility problems. Because CDP can identify and quantify the sensory (visual, vestibular and somatosensory) and motor functions involved in balance control, the information obtained provides an efficient means of understanding your patients’ balance deficits and can effectively guide your treatment planning.
